As a family, titanium and its alloys have developed a mystique as a nightmare to machine. This is simply not the case. Experienced operators have compared its characteristics to those found in 316 stainless steel. Recommended practice includes high coolant flow (to offset the material's low thermal conductivity), slow speeds and relatively high feed rates.
DESCRIPTION
CP Grade 2 Titanium Round Rods offer high corrosion resistance and a greater working range than aluminum. It's high strength, low weight ratio give Grade 2 Titanium a diversified range of applications ranging from medical applications to aerospace and automotive fabrication. The CP addition indicates a Commercially Pure characteristic of the titanium.
Grade 2 titanium, in its annealed state, is a ductile metal with the approximate strength of 6061-T6 aluminum. It is used where corrosion resistance is an important criterion, or where operating temperatures preclude the use of aluminum.
6AL-4V Titanium Round Rods,Often known for its medical and aerospace applications, 6AL- 4V Titanium is the most common titanium alloy. It is heat treatable, lightweight and offers high corrosion resistance. Recommended practice includes high coolant flow (to offset the material's low thermal conductivity), slow speeds and relatively high feed rates.
Ti-6AL-4V ELI Titanium Round Rods are used wherever light weight, high strength, increased toughness, and high corrosion resistance are needed. Substantially harder than Grade 2 titanium, 6AL-4V ELI Titanium Round Rods are recommended to be machined with slow speeds and high lubrication.
The "ELI" (extra-low interstitial) addition to the alloy indicates that it is a higher-purity of 6AL-4V Titanium. Compared to general 6Al-4V Titanium, the ELI addition makes the metal very suitable for many medical applications.Also, the ELI grade offers superior toughness to fracture and fatigue cracking, particularly in very cold, cryogenic temperatures.
